A weekly roundup of interesting, inspiring and beautiful things that I’ve stumbled upon recently.
Listen: Champagne Kisses – Jesse Ware
One of my favorite songs by Jesse Ware. Something I love about this video was called out in the comments below. Some people mention that she looks “old”. Jesse is only 30. But does she look old? Or does she just look like a grown woman? It’s refreshing to see a music video with an artist who is able to be beautiful exactly as she is, without needing to chase the teenage dream that so many other artists her age (and older) do.
Read: Generation Flux | Find Your Mission – Fast Company
From the November 2014 Issue, this article sums up a lot of what I think my generation “gets” about work, while featuring trailblazers of all ages. These are the people who excite me. This is the reason I’m an entrepreneur. Money as a motivator is on it’s way out. What actually stimulates you? What is at the core of your company, of yourself? These days, the most successful companies are those who stand for a bigger purpose, and who infuse that purpose into everything they do, from their product to their company culture.
Watch: How Great Leaders Inspire Action – Simon Sinek, TED talk
“People don’t buy what you do, they buy why you do it”. This inspiring TED talk by Simon Sinek is an oldie but a goodie. If you haven’t watched it then you should. If you have, watch it again. In the same vein as the article above, this talk is about importance of knowing why you do what you do – something worth reassessing regularly in all our lives. Being able to accurately convey the “why” in your work is the key to great leaders, great companies… and something I’m still working to master.
Eat: Semilla – Williamsburg, Brooklyn
Can’t wait to check out this “vegetable forward restaurant” where meat plays a supporting role, with 18 seats around a central bar. The small setting gives the sense you’re at an intimate dinner party, and encourages interaction with others. Make a reservation for the $75 tasting menu for dinner, or stop by for snacks and drinks at any time.
I’m a sucker for couples who collaborate. I’ve always felt there’s something incredibly powerful about the work, be it business or creative, that comes from two people who love each other on an intimate level. Kind of like the artistic version of a baby… or something. This whimsical, self-portrait photo project is the result of a collaboration between real life couple Leta Sobierajski and Wade Jeffree.
